Fabric Covered Bulletin Boards

Kathleen decided on purple, gray and black for the main colors of her room.  She purchased the bulletin boards at Walmart.  The fabric was purchased at Hobby Lobby.

You will need:

scissors or rotary cutter

1/2 yd of two fabrics

4 bulletin boards

staple gun

tack hammer

How to measure fabric needed

Lay your fabric on a flat surface and place the bulletin board on top of it.  Pull the fabric down to cover the frame.

Now measure the width of this fabric.  You will need to add this to the measurement of the bulletin board. (ex. board measures 10 – fabric needed to cover the frame is 1.5 inches – you will have to add 3 inches to the length and 3 inches to the width – cut the fabric 13 x 13)

You can now cut your fabric using a rotary cutter.  It can also be cut using scissors, but  a rotary cutter makes the job so much easier.

Stapling the fabric

Fold the fabric over the top of the bulletin board and staple in the middle of the frame.  Now pull the fabric taut and put at staple in the middle of the bottom of the frame.  Next go to the right side of the frame and pull the fabric taut and put a staple in the middle right side.  Repeat on the left side.  Now continue placing staples while keeping the fabric taut on the frame.  Work your way around the frame, but do not put the staples in the corner yet.

Now fold the corners over and cut a small triangle out of the corner of the fabric to reduce the bulk.

Now fold the corners over and tuck the raw edges (see picture) and put in a staple.  Now it is done.  You may need to add a picture hanger.  If you like the look and are not going to use them as bulletin boards, you could save money and cover canvas frames.  Enjoy…we will update the picture after they are hung.
